One-to-One meetings

In the afternoon we will host a One-to-One session, a great opportunity to schedule bilateral business session.

Workshop:

BGP Security in Practice: RPKI, ASPA and MANRS

In an Internet ecosystem increasingly exposed to hijacks and route leaks, routing security is no longer optional, it is an operational requirement. This 3-hour masterclass provides a concrete, hands-on overview of three key pillars of modern routing security: RPKI, ASPA, and MANRS. Starting from real-world scenarios and common incident patterns, we will explore how RPKI/ROV reduces hijacks through origin validation, what changes with ASPA in preventing route leaks, and the associated operational considerations. We will conclude with MANRS, linking best practices and measurable controls to day-to-day operational processes: routing policy, filtering, IRR/RPKI management, coordination with upstreams and peers, and compliance metrics. This session is designed for network operators, NOC staff, routing engineers, and technical managers. By the end, participants will have a clear, actionable roadmap of what can be implemented immediately to improve the resilience of their AS, while understanding the practical limitations.

Antonio Prado

I hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science, with a research focus on Internet Routing Security, where I developed tools and methodologies for the automated verification of BGP configurations. With over 30 years of technical and project experience, I am coauthor of the book BGP from Theory to Practice, aimed at both technical and academic audiences, and of the outreach volume ”Parlami di TEch”, designed to make technology accessible to broader audiences. During the course of my career, I have served as Chief Technical Officer for several Italian ISPs, and have been a MANRS (Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security) Ambassador and member of its Steering Committee, actively promoting global best practices for Internet routing security. Since 2022, I have been a member of the RIPE Programme Committee, contributing to the review and selection of scientific presentations at European community conferences. I have delivered seminars and lectures on Internet and Network Architectures at the University of Camerino and Pescara, and have taught DNS, Internet Governance, and BGP at the Namex School of Advanced Networking, helping to train the next generation of network professionals.

Flavio Luciani

Flavio Luciani was born in Rome in 1981 and graduated in Computer Engineering from the University of Roma Tre in 2005. Since 2008 he has been in the team of Namex, the Internet eXchange Point in Rome, first as a member of the technical staff and since 2020 as Chief Technology Officer. He is currently involved in several initiatives in the Internet Community: he collaborates with the RIPE NCC organisation, with the association of European eXchange points EURO-IX and holds a role in the Steering Committee, within the Internet Society (ISOC) initiative, Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security. Through workshops, courses and in-depth articles, it promotes greater attention to the topic of routing security.
